Seatbelts: It is the law in Massachusetts and the policy of the ECOA that everyone wear a seatbelt. Seatbelts must be worn prior to the movement of the van and until the driver comes to a complete stop.
Pick-up Time/Delay in Service: Passengers must be ready for pickup at the appointed time. The van driver cannot wait for passengers who are not ready for pickup at the appointed time.
No Shows: When a trip is cancelled within one hour of a scheduled pickup or not cancelled at all, the trip is considered a no show. After an individual acquires 3 no shows within a one year period, he/she may be suspended from using the van for up to three (3) months.
Multiple Stops: The ECOA requires that reservations MUST be made in advance fro multiple stops. The ECOA will not accommodate requests for multiple stops withoug advanced reservations. The ECOA reserves the right to limit the number of stops per passenger to two (2) per day. Exception: picking up a prescription after a medical appointment.
Transporting Ill or Injured Passengers: The ECOA will not/cannot be responsible for transporting ill or injured passengers. The ECOA will make every effort to offer assistance by calling a family member or 911 for transport to the hospital or medical doctor.
Leaving Passengers Alone on the Van: Van passengers are not to be left alone on the van for any reason. The van driver's responsibility is to pick up and drop off passengers. Van drivers cannot assist you with banking errands, picking up medications, shopping or other errands, which would require the van driver to leave the van unattended.
Driver/Trip Itinerary: Trip itinerary shall be developed by the Transportation Coordinator and advertised in the ECOA newsletter, The Senior Sentinel in an effort to better coordinate trip activities and to educate trip passengers on time factor and trip schedule. The van driver will discuss the itinerary PRIOR to the departure of passengers from the van.
